The WHO (World Health Organization), US CDC, along with other entities, have come to the realization the world is facing an unavoidable crisis involving untreatable infections due to the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Enormous efforts and investments have been made to discover novel antibiotics. We took a unique approach following an accidental rediscovery, and discovered a completely novel mechanism to kill a broad spectrum of bacteria. We have discovered ways to trick bacteria into dramatically increasing the production of these novel antibiotics, which we call “autobiotics”. We have been able to produce autobiotics from 3 different bacteria. We have shown that all three autobiotics are bactericidal and lyse bacterial cells by activating bacterial self-destruction. We have shown our autobiotics inhibit the growth of 10 representative bacterial pathogens, including clinical isolates resistant to “last-resort” antibiotics.
