The device is an improved negative pressure esophageal endoluminal vacuum device which can systematically and consistently prevent anastomotic leakage following an esophagectomy, and provide suction of built-up gastrointestinal fluids for the duration of post operative care and compatible to existing in-wall medical suction outlet. It comprises of a novel system to deploy an expandable sponge system to couple with suction systems to provide much needed sealing around the suture site of an esophagectomy, potentially improving quality of life and recovery rate of patients, while reducing adverse reactions from leaky suture junctions.
