IDEA #8GKMRA Thiol-Initiated Radical Photopolymerization. 23A0023

There is a need for chemical reactions for creating polymers. Important patents exist on new reactions for preparations of polymers. This invention describes an entirely new polymerization that uses ubiquitous thiols as initiators and proceeds photochemically in aqueous buffers. We have named this reaction the ‘Thiol-Initiated Radical Photopolymerization’. Such a polymerization could be used in the following applications for which large markets exist: modifications of enzymes for cleaning products, such as enzymes in laundry detergents, modifications of proteins and antigens in vaccines to increase stability or modulate biological properties, increasing stability and lifetimes of active ingredients in protein-based consumer and industrial products.
