IDEA #0OQWXU Diagnostic and neuroprotective extracellular vesicles for treatment of retinal degeneration. 23A0009

Lehman, Stephen Redenti et al This invention is two-fold. First a method to identify early biomarkers for particular retinal diseases that can help in early treatment and limiting progression of the disease. Isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles from patient urine, blood, tears, vitreous and other bodily fluids. Analysis of these exosomes enable to determine the concentration of specific biomarkers, enabling diagnostic of disease. Secondly, we isolated unique exosomes secreted from human cone progenitors and human rod progenitors. After isolation, proteomics and miRNA characterization, a wide range of unique neuroprotective markers were found to be present in those exosomes. First in vivo injection was perform to prove safety and low immune response in rats. Subsequent injection to prove neuroprotection in mice is being performed.
