IDEA #5MFVV1 23A0017 Combined Oxygenation and Disinfection Device and Method for Water Treatment using Singlet Oxygen in a Low Head Oxygenator Configuration

Alan Lyons and Alexander Greer, SingletO2 Therapeutics and City University of New York. QianFeng Xu, SingletO2 Therapeutics LLC. In our prior work, we learned that large area, porous, water-impermeable membranes loaded with a photosensitizer are an effective and robust method for generating singlet oxygen when efficiently coupled to a LED light source. In this invention, we have developed a new design to leverage this knowledge and incorporate it into a low head oxygenator (LHO). The objective is to build a singlet oxygen generator (SOG) that will generate a large quantity of singlet oxygen and do so with high electrical efficiency while ensuring that the treated water is saturated with oxygen. The device includes a central LED light source with a heat dissipation system to ensure that that photosensitizer does not overheat.
