The purpose of this invention is to provide a noninvasive method for measuring the flow speed within a region of interest hidden inside a turbid medium. One example is to measure the local cerebral blood flow speed inside a region deep inside the brain, which is of critical importance for trauma patient care yet non-invasive method does not exist currently. The invention also distinguishes from other attempts for probing such flow with light. It obtains the local flow speed not contaminated by the surrounding host nor by the skull for the brain application.
