Environmental-responsive fluorescent molecules are exceptionally important tool molecules across the scientific community, and there is major interest in developing new and novel classes that may improve upon existing technologies. The present invention describes a significantly novelty fluorescent scaffold and a rapid strategy to generate this new analogs based upon this scaffold. Preliminary data is disclosed that demonstrates that these molecules can dramatically change their fluorescence as a result of solvent, pH, and metal-coordination.
