4C. What is the purpose and utility of the invention in general terms?
The proposed invention encompasses a transducer that enables conversion of the microwave radiation into optical signals at cryogenic temperatures down to −459 F (approximately 1 degree Kelvin) and the reciprocal conversion of the optical signal to microwave radiation. The source of the microwave radiation can be superconducting qubits in a quantum computer. The proposed device can be used to interconnect quantum computers in a single network thus enabling modular quantum computing. This way the existing strong technological limitations on the number of logical elements in a single quantum computer are mitigated. With the proposed technology, quantum computers can be used as components of data for big data processing opening new approaches in big data processing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and others.
