The apparatus/robots provide vertical mobility for non-destructive testing (NDT) instruments and cameras, for the purpose of inspection of large structures with large flat areas such as but not limited to building façades, dams, tunnels, and bridges. The device is designed to be operable in any orientation whether it be on the ground on the wall or on a ceiling, and is designed to overcome small gaps, ledges and other features that may be found on these surfaces. The device may be configured for other purposes such as surveillance and surface cleaning.
