AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGIES
TECHNIQUE FOR DIGITAL SPACE IMAGES QUALITY RESTORATION BY INVERSE
FILTERING
Description
The lot of remote sensing satellite systems produces
and transmits to the Earth the various digital space
images for the nature sources control and monitor-
ing.
However some spatial (geometrical) distortions are
inherent to images from the remote sensing opto-
electronic scanners. They are conditioned by, in par-
ticular, errors of navigation angles keeping and by
impossibility of precise synchronization of CCD
photodetectors array readout frequency with speed
of a space vehicle orbital movement. A result of
such distortions is the reduction of received image
quality that brings to complicating the topographic
mapping and obstruct the image interpretation.
The purpose of this technology is the quality resto-
ration of the digital space images registered onboard
space vehicles of remote sensing system.
The algorithms of space image processing are of-
fered. These algorithms allow to measure modula-
tion transfer function (MTF) directly on digital im-
age fragment. The correction of spatially-dependent
distortions, such as forward motion blur, accom-
plished by method of an inverse filtering. The tech-
nique for automatic estimation of a digital space
image MTF cross-section along arbitrary direction
using current scene digital image fragment is pro-
posed. Also construction procedure of the appropri-
ate inverse operator for image restoration is de-
signed.
Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages
The advantage in comparison with known technolo-
gies consists of better edge functions finding, full
automation of process and capability of digital im-
ages restoration in real time.
Areas of Application
Targeted industry sector is aerospace digital images
processing and its quality evaluation, remote sensing
software development.
