A running tool (31) sets a casing hanger packoff (103) and ensures that the packoff (103) is not pressure tested unless the proper setting stroke was made by the running tool (103).The running tool has a stem (33), an inner body (43), and a piston (83). The inner body (43) is connected to the stem (33) so that rotation of the stem (33) relative to the inner body (43) will cause the stem (33) to move longitudinally. The piston (83) is connected to the stem (33) so that the stem (33) and piston (83) rotate and move longitudinally in unison. A test slot (71) is located in the outer surface of the inner body (43). A limit pin (89) is connected to the piston (83) and is adapted to engage the test slot (71) when the piston (83) moves longitudinally relative to the inner body (43).
